What's Going On Here?

Hi, my name's Shane Bell, and I'm the guy who writes all this stuff. That's me down there in the photo. I'm a Java developer and have been for a while now. But I'm interested in pretty much anything releated to software development so you're sure to read about all kinds of stuff here.

Recently I've been spending a lot of time working with Ruby, and Rails. In fact, this blog is generated with Ruby. But for the time being, Java is still paying the bills so that's probably what you'll hear the most about.

I'm Australian, but live in London for now. I'm still not exactly sure why I gave up the sunny beaches of Sydney for the grey skies of London, but it's been great fun so far.

So what's this "only simpler" thing all about? Basically it's an idea I have to write software - only simpler. I think too many programs and web based applications are just far too complicated and I'd like to see more software that is simple, easy to use and just works. I think there is a big market for software that does one thing and does it really well. So stay tuned for more.
